Case Study delivered by Green Mountain Data Centers - The Volkswagen Group

In june 2019, the Volkswagen Group officially opened its HPC data center operations at Green Mountain's DC2-Telemark site in Rjukan, Norway. The two custom-built data center halls for the Volkwagen Group were constructed in only 6 months. They run entirely on renewable hydroelectric power and high-tech cooling solutions also make them extremely energy-efficient. These halls are supplied with up to 2,750 kilowatts of power – that generates plenty of computing capability that Volkswagen and Audi applies to projects requiring considerable amounts of it. For instance, they run simulated crash tests on the computers in Rjukan as well as virtual wind tunnel trials.
The main objectives of the Volkswagen Group was to establish a data center that was both sustainable and cost effective. The establishment at Rjukan meets both requirements.
