Data Centre World Frankfurt, co-located with Cloud Expo Europe, Cloud & Cyber Security Expo and Big Data World has successfully established itself to support the German Data Centre industry as it experiences a phase of incredible growth. It provides a space for knowledge sharing and education, and most importantly, a platform for critical equipment companies, design and build organisations and consultancies to source genuine sales leads and secure business.
There were over 5,000 attendees across the two days of the 2017 event – a number we expect to smash in 2018!
Registration data and post-show research reveal the buying power of the more than 5,000 attendees at the 2017 show:
- 38% were from organisations with more than 500 staff
- 78% specify, influence or have final sign off on technology purchases for their organisations
- 87% stressed the importance of meeting with suppliers before doing business
- 56% were from companies that operate a data centre
- 90% of these were looking to expand or update their data centres
Research by Forrester predicts that tech spending in Western and Central Europe will grow by 2.3% in 2018 with Germany being the largest market measured in US dollars.
The increasing demand for cloud-based storage is one of the primary factors that will boost the growth of the data centre market in the coming years (Technavio market research) and the driving forces behind this market are cloud computing providers. Industry 4.0. increases data traffic as well as online payment services. In addition, the German Mittelstand increasingly outsources its data to clouds for cost-saving purposes (DLA Piper).
Since two fibre-optic cables that are central to the IT industry converge in Frankfurt, the city is - in addition to London and Amsterdam - the most important location for European Data Centres. 25% of the nationwide 1.9 million sqm of Data Centre space is located in Hessen - and the vast majority of Data Centres are in Frankfurt. It looks likely that the influx of Data Centres to Germany will continue.
Frankfurt is also a popular location for DCs because of its secure power supply. Even though the country’s energy costs are high, stringent German data protection regulations and the legal certainty this offers compared to other countries are convincing companies to overlook this disadvantage (DLA Piper).
Experts estimate that data volume will rise fivefold in five years and that as a result, around 100 new Data Centres will be needed in Germany in the near future.
